class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How does the CAP support young farmers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European Union, like Cyprus, is facing a serious problem of an aging rural population. Specifically, only 11% of agricultural holdings are managed by people under 40 across the EU, while in Cyprus this percentage reaches 2.6% (for people under 35). The EU and the Member States, recognizing the multiple challenges of agriculture and encouraging young people to engage in it through the Common Agricultural Policy offer direct financial support to all new farmers under 40 years of age. In addition, it provides other benefits such as education and training in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More specifically, for this transitional period (2021-2022) between the CAP 2014-2020 and the new CAP 2023-2027 the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Cyprus has announced &#8220;Support for the first establishment of young farmers&#8221; (Scheme 6.1) amounting to \u20ac 5,000,000 . The amount aid for each beneficiary ranges from \u20ac 20,000 to \u20ac 50,000 depending on their participation and in Scheme 4.1. referred to as &#8220;Investments that improve the overall performance and viability of farms&#8221;.
