SUMMARY:1st meeting of the ENRD Thematic Group on Rural Proofing
DESCRIPTION:Rural proofing is a mechanism that can help boost rural revitalisation by ensuring all relevant policies are aligned with rural needs and realities. It is also one of the transversal elements outlined in the Long Term Vision for Rural Areas. In the vision it is indicated that the EU will take steps to integrate a rural proofing mechanism as part of the Better Regulation Agenda\, notably to assess the anticipated impact of major EU legislative initiatives on rural areas. The vision also calls for Member States to consider implementing the rural proofing principle at the national\, regional and local level.  \nThis is the first meeting of the ENRD Thematic Group (TG) on Rural Proofing\, which is launched with the ambition to support the design and implementation of rural proofing mechanisms within Member States at different administrative levels (national\, regional and local). The meeting sets the scene on rural proofing and provides a space for sharing knowledge and experience on what should be considered when designing rural proofing mechanisms and applying them in practice. \nAims of the meeting \n\nTo provide an overview of existing experience on rural proofing in different countries\, with a particular attention to success factors and challenges;\nTo start discussing how to design effective rural proofing mechanisms taking into account specific contexts and different administrative levels; and\nTo exchange on the further work of the Thematic Group\, including activities in-between meetings.

SUMMARY:The 2021 EU Agricultural Outlook conference
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nThe 2021 EU Agricultural Outlook conference took place online on 9 and 10 December. The theme of this year’s event was ‘Fit for 2030 – resilient EU agri-food systems and rural areas’. \nThe conference examined what we expect global agricultural markets to look like in 2030\, in light of the political and market uncertainty currently facing the agricultural sector. Will food systems be more resilient following the Covid-19 pandemic? Will the new common agricultural policy effectively encourage farmers across Europe to embrace the green transition? \nSenior representatives from EU bodies and international organisations\, farmers\, agricultural experts and rural actors discussed these questions\, as well as the broader medium-term outlook for agricultural markets\, income and environment. \nThe EU Agricultural Outlook conference has become a successful annual event for broad exchanges among stakeholders on market prospects in agriculture\, including the political framework and uncertainties surrounding market developments in the next 10 years. Each year the conference coincides with the release of the annual report on market prospects. \nKeynote speech by Mr Janusz Wojciechowski

SUMMARY:The Farm-to-Fork Strategy and cooperation in the agri-food supply chain- ENRD-supported virtual webinar
DESCRIPTION:The launch of the European Commission’s Forum on Best Practice in the AgriFood Supply Chain gathered expertise from across Europe at the ENRD-supported virtual webinar on 2 December. \nMore than 80 participants took part in the Forum’s first session which combined keynote perspectives from different European Commission services and practical experience from successful producer organizations. The event was opened by Maciej Golubiewski\, Head of Cabinet for Commissioner Wojciechowski\, and Michael Scannell\, Deputy Director General\, DG AGRI. They highlighted the value of sharing good practices in transparent supply-chain cooperation that strengthens positions of producers and others during the EU’s transition\nto more sustainable food systems. Delegates taking part included producers\, processors and retailers with information being provided about relevant Farm to Fork tools that can help drive a transition to sustainable food systems – such as the Code of Good Conduct for Responsible Food Business & Marketing Practices to which over 100 organizations have already signed up to. See the Forum event webpage to learn about its findings regarding CAP mechanisms available for supporting producer organizations (POs) and more. \n  \n
